Illegal dumping
Illegal dumping is the discarding of waste on public or private land outside of designated collection points. It's more than an eyesore — it creates breeding grounds for mosquitoes, rodents, and other pests, poses health and safety risks, lowers property values, and discourages investment and tourism in the area.
How to report:
Email: DSW@durban.gov.za
Direct contact: Phumelele.Ngongoma@durban.gov.za
Cleansing and Solid Waste helpline: 031 311 8804 / 36
Walk-in: Cleansing and Solid Waste reception, 17 Electron Road, Springfield
What residents can do to help:
Only put refuse out on your scheduled collection day
Use street litter bins provided in the area
Report illegal dumping locations, when noticed, to the above and the PVUIP office
Keeping our streets and open spaces free of dumped waste is a shared responsibility, and every report helps.
A Few Tips for Faster Turnaround of Fault Repair
Take a photo. Whether you're emailing or using WhatsApp, a clear photo of the fault and its exact location speeds things up considerably.
Note the location precisely. A street address, nearest intersection, or (for street poles) the pole number is needed.
Keep your reference number. If you report by phone, hold onto the reference number in case you need to follow up.
Use WhatsApp for convenience. It's often the quickest way to log a fault with a photo attached, without waiting on hold.
Send your reference to the PV UIP office WhatsApp 072 480 0059, phone 031 205 1269 or email admin@pigeonvalleyuip.durban
